It's the small unnoticed details someone observes about you that can make you feel seen and special. That's what I love about black and white photos. They strip away any distraction with the intention of focusing on something you want to remember - a memory you want to last a little longer.

A goal this year is to try different black and white films. I want to note the details of each stock, the highlights, contrast, and how that affects the scenes I shoot. Super excited☺ These shots (and the ones from the previous blog entries) were shot on Ilford HP5 Plus rated at box speed. It's noted to be a high speed film with fine grain and medium contrast.

My lighting varied as a shot the roll - overcast (above) and brightly lit (below). I am surprised with it's range of tones since I am not an expert at nailing perfect exposure consistently. A favorite, but I've only shot this b&w stock in the past lol.

Below are snapshots of one of my favorite reading spots in Los Angeles. A perfect place to people watch. Hidden amongst industrial buildings, surrounded by thriving tropical plants. The best detail - they sell tacos.

Side note: Tino asked me to be his Valentine today hehe.

I started my IG with the intention to post only black and white. I've always been drawn to it - the photos are quieter.

Looking through my high school film portfolio, I shot mostly in black and white. I guess the excitement of trying new film stocks took hold of my inspiration during quarantine.

I don't know why it took me so long to load a b&w film in my camera again. On a whim before dinner with friends, I loaded Ilford HP5 and drove out 30 minutes early to shoot around the area. It was enough to be inspired and begin again.

This year has been a whirlwind. I am grateful for everything this year brought, and excited for 2022.

The best of 2021:

  • Chungus - even though I can't get any work done, and I can't ever be on my phone anymore.

  • Assisted in the design of brand new taxiways for 3 airports; wrapped up 3 construction projects at LAX and ONT.

  • Bought a house, continuing to make it a home. Even though the closets are the bane of my existence right now.

  • Everything K&N became this year. Excited for a new direction and ideas in 2022.

  • Bon started her career in Pasadena. That meant more sleepovers and twice the amount of pasta.

  • Ran my first and last half-marathon. Training for it took dancing away for a few months, so I'm excited to be back to my preferred outlet of Tahitian, Hawaiian, and ballroom :)

  • Dodged COVID for the second year in a row. This seemed almost impossible towards the end of the year.

Goals for 2022:

  • Keep shooting consistently and follow through with the projects I've been meaning to start.

  • Start and finish the closets at home (lol to how long I've ranted about this to my sister)

  • Europe - this trip got postponed FOUR times. WE. ARE. GONNA. MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.

  • Road trips - to parks, to Lyssa and Leo, and just to get out.

  • More courage to step out of comfort zones, and more grace when mistakes happen during that process.

Happy New Year! Thank you for all the support on this site. I see each one of you, and am grateful for your visits 😉
